Mad Men

I love Mad Men.
Set in 1960s New York, the television drama series follows Don Draper, the "biggest ad man in the business" and the ultimate anti-hero as he works in a competitive advertising agency on Madison Avenue.
It is superbly directed and every single frame is in itself a stunning photograph.
A snapshot from another era which I wish I could visit.
The brilliant series 3 is over, so I am pining after the next...

Joan Holloway (above- played by Christina Hendricks) is my absolute favourite character. She has killer lines and costumes. But it's also the fact that she hit her husband over the head with a vase of flowers when he was being rude. You don't get cooler than that.

The Radar- Random links and things that have caught my eye this week...

1. Chanel are selling the temporary tattoos they used for their SS10 collection.

I was blown away the first time I saw the Chanel Spring Summer 2010 collection but the main thing that caught my eye was the pretty illustrations of birds, pearls, chains and Chanel logos on the models going down the runway. And now Chanel are taking inspiration from the fake ink and releasing them as temporary tattoos so we can have a slice of the Chanel pretty ink action.
Best of all they are self adhesive so once you get sick of them (as if you ever would get bored of a Chanel tattoo!) you can simply wash it off.
So if you are interested don't forget you can buy them at Chanel boutiques from the 1st of March.

2. Lady Gaga is the new creative director of Polaroid.

Yes really. She said that she wants to “blend the iconic history of Polaroid with the digital era” and is launching her own products which will be released later this year.
Fingers crossed she brings back the now discontinued instant Polaroid cameras!

3. Christina Hendricks who plays the amazing Joan Holloway in Mad Men got married.
Does anyone else watch it? I am addicted, roll on the series 3 boxset...
Normally I am not at all fussed about celebrity weddings (I despise OK and Hello! Magazine) but these photos are beautiful.
The costume designer for Mad Men picked out the vintage 50s dresses for the bridesmaids, only their close friends and family attended, they ate rustic Italian food and of course the bride looked stunning.
Watch out Christina I am stealing your dress and pretty veil for own my wedding day.
(Even though you already know about my Oscar De La Renta obsession)

4. The Lanvin SS10 campaign

It is just amazing. Shot by Stephen Meisel and modelled by Jamie Bochert the photographs are so dynamic and have so much energy you cannot help but stop and stare at them.
If this was Americas Next Top Model there is no way that Tyra Banks and co. would say that the model was “was holding back” or “not giving her all.” Even the chandelier is swinging with her for goodness sake. Nice one Jamie!

5. Glee!

I think that this is going to be my new television obsession (goodbye for now Mad Men, Skins, Gossip Girl, 90210, Project Runway, ANTM and The Inbetweeners...)
I love it already after watching the amazing first episode here on E4 and this clip of Kurt doing the ‘Single Ladies’ dance when his dad walks in.
Genius.

Current Obsession- Misfits

My new favourite TV programme.
As soon as I heard it described as “Skins meets heroes” I knew I had to check it out and it doesn’t disappoint. Although it is nowhere near as good as the genius that is Skins it is still pretty darn great.
It’s basically about a group of ASBO kids who are doing community service when they suddenly gain super powers in a mysterious storm and it’s very funny, quite daft and surprisingly scary (Warning: also pretty rude so I always make sure that I don’t watch it when my parents are in the room haha...)

Watch the season finale tomorrow at 10pm on E4 or catch up on the series at 4 on demand here

Beth xx

Style Inspiration- Ugly Betty

Follow my blog with bloglovin

You are probably thinking, “Yes I love Ugly Betty, her character is cute, the plots are silly but fun, the fashion references are good, and Marc and Amanda’s bitchy comments are hilarious but ‘style inspiration,’ really?”
Well yes, the costume designs for Ugly Betty are done by none other than the Patricia Field, who in case you didn’t already know is the genius behind the wardrobes in Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and also Confessions of a Shopaholic.
So yes here is my unlikely style inspiration this week and I am taking inspiration from Betty's clashing patterns, quirky accessories, bright colours and cute sweaters...

Patricia Field, stylist guru

She has also done the warbrobes for Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of a Shopaholic.
And of course Ugly Betty...
Does anyone else have a weird style crush?!

90210

I hate a love/hate relationship with this programme.
On one hand it is the perfect Monday night show to watch as you don't have to think much to keep up. On the other how are we supposed to believe these kids are just 16?
It's just not realistic.

There's Silver the psycotic girlfriend who films her and her boyfriend having sex, Adrianna the pregnant girl who despite all the Juno references has nothing on Ellen Page and then there is Naomi the girl who is 16 but lives by herself in a hotel. Oh and Annie the boring goodie too shoes.
Of course there is also Dixon who is fiiit so I am not going to complain about him.

It still makes good tv though so I guess I will continue to watch it...

The teenage drama magnificence of skins beats 90210 hands down though. Ha.
